Done Revisited

July 4th, 2026. Today the United States marks its 250th birthday. Like millions of others, I spent part of today thinking about the people who built something they knew they would never see finished. That idea has been following me for months. When I started building software, I thought every project had a finish line. I kept asking myself what "done" meant. Now I think I was asking the wrong question. The real question isn't whether something is ever finished. It's whether you've built something solid enough that someone else can keep building after you're gone. Over the past months I've watched ideas become repositories, repositories become software, and software begin solving real problems. Some of it works. Some of it still needs forged. All of it taught me something I didn't know before I started. I'm still learning. I'm still making mistakes. I'm still convinced that careful work matters. On a day that celebrates 250 years of people building, repairing, improving, and carrying things forward, that feels like the right reminder. Emberwake isn't about chasing the newest thing.
